Attitude-Based Digital Autopilot

Avidyne’s DFC90 Attitude-Based Digital Autopilot can has the precision of an attitude-based flight control system and improves safety with their Envelope protection capability.  This is a slide-in replacement for the STEC-55X autopilots common to Cirrus SR20s and SR22s.

The DFC90 has Flight Director (FD), Altitude Hold (ALT), Airspeed Hold (IAS), Vertical Speed Hold (VS), Heading (HDG), and Navigation (NAV, APPR, LOC/GS, GPSS).

There are many other improvements, such as a dedicated vertical speed knob, wide autopilot engagement, pitch hold mode, automatic back course approach selection, multiple color annunciations, intercept mode annunciations.  This is in addition to the ease of use that comes with Avidyne products.

Flight Envelope Protection
For flight envelope protection, available lift and speed margin are calculated constantly in the background whenever any mode, including Flight Director modes, are in operation. In Flight Director modes, all these actions appear as guidance cues with corrections blended into the “V-bar” commands.
